Hey there, thanks for taking the time to check out KDawnClay and learn a little more about me! Clay is the medium that convinced me that I wanted to work as an artist, what was supposed to be a hobby quickly turned into a full time obsession and I quickly began working towards creating a studio I could begin working from.

Currently I enjoy creating a large body of functional work, pots fit for your plant family, plates and bowls for daily use, as well as sculptural wall hangings. This body of work is inspired by rivers and the fear and respect I have grown for water while working as a raft guide. Water is a force that works both swift and slow. I often try to evoke the texture of erosion on my surfaces. I use different "resist" methods, where I apply tape or wax to a form in order to resist the glaze and showcase the raw claybody and resulting rippled texture. Its my hope that my work echoes the beauty I find from time spent in river Canyons.

As a lesbian, white, latinx, native woman, my unique perspective has driven me to fight for opportunities to access, knowledge, and the ability to create art in this field. Creating work in the ceramic field has not been an easy experience and I want to help and encourage others who want to do the same and explore ceramic art. It is a goal of mine to work towards creating equity in the ceramic art community through providing more thoughtful and affordable access to classes and firing services.
